A double door main gate design splits the opening into two leaves, so each leaf is lighter, swings in less space and puts less load on the pillar. For most homes with a 10 to 12 ft drive, two leaves are the right answer.
Below are 12 designs: iron and steel double door gates, unequal leaves, a 3 palla gate and single door gates for narrow plots. Each comes with the section sizes and a note you can show your fabricator.

Modern Iron Double Door Main Gate Design
Iron (MS) is the most common choice for a double palla gate. These main gate double door design iron ideas use box sections that stay straight and are easy to repaint.

| Size | 12 x 7 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 50x50, 40x10 flats |
| Finish | Matt black PU |
Flat bars set edge-on look slim from the front but block more view from an angle. A clean choice for a flat roof house.
Fabricator tip: Weld flats edge-on at 25 mm gaps, use 50x50 mm outer frame and three hinges per leaf.
Double Door Main Gate Design in Stainless Steel
SS 304 double door gates do not rust, so they suit coastal towns and homes where nobody wants to repaint. Pick a thick pipe so the leaves do not dent or wobble.

| Size | 10 x 6 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | SS 304, 1.5 in pipe |
| Finish | Mirror + matt mix |
Round SS pipes with a frosted glass panel on top give a bright, modern front. Wipe the glass and steel together once a week.
Fabricator tip: Insist on SS 304 grade, 1.2 mm wall pipe minimum, and SS hinges with no mild steel parts.
Unequal Double Door Main Gate: One Big and One Small Leaf
An unequal gate has a small leaf of about 3 to 4 ft for walking and a larger leaf for the car. People open the small leaf every day, so the big hinges stay fresh for years. In some towns this is called a 2 palla gate with a door; a 3 palla main gate design adds a third leaf for very wide drives.

| Size | 12 ft (4 + 8), unequal |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 50x25 slats |
| Finish | Slate grey PU |
The narrow leaf is used daily and the wide one only when the car goes out. Matching slats keep it looking like one gate.
Fabricator tip: Give the big leaf a support wheel on a curved floor plate, and a drop bolt to hold it shut.

| Size | 13 ft (4.5 + 8.5) |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 40x40, 16 mm bars |
| Finish | White, gold tips |
Different leaf widths but one smooth curve across the top, so the eye reads one gate. A classic look for a big bungalow.
Fabricator tip: Draw the curve on the floor full size before cutting, so both leaves meet at the same height.
Single Door Main Gate Design for Narrow Plots
On a narrow plot or a walk-in entrance, a single main gate design is cheaper and simpler. Use a main gate design single door when no car needs to enter. Keep a single leaf under 5 ft wide or it will start to drop at the far end. These iron single door main gate design photos show options up to 4.5 ft.

| Size | 4 x 7 ft, single |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 40x40, 12 mm bars |
| Finish | Satin black |
An arched single leaf frames the path to the front door. A simple drop latch is easy for elders to open.
Fabricator tip: Hang the leaf on two heavy hinges and one spring hinge, and set a stopper on the floor.
Double Door or Single Door: How to Decide
| Opening width | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 4.5 ft | Single door | One leaf, fewer hinges, lowest cost |
| 8 to 10 ft | Double, equal | Balanced look, short swing |
| 10 to 13 ft | Double, unequal | Open only the small leaf daily |
| 14 ft and above | 3 leaf or sliding | Single leaves get too heavy |
Also check the swing space inside. Each leaf needs a clear arc equal to its width. If the porch is short, look at our sliding and folding gates.
What to Tell the Fabricator About a Double Door Gate
- Outer frame: MS 40x40 mm for leaves up to 5 ft, 50x50 mm above that.
- Add a diagonal brace or full sheet inside each leaf; without it the far corner drops.
- Fit a centre stopper in the floor and a tower bolt on one leaf so the pair locks together.
- Keep a 10 to 12 mm gap where the leaves meet so paint does not rub off.
- Prime every surface, including inside the box ends, before final paint.

How Cost Is Worked Out
For iron gates the fabricator weighs the finished gate and charges his rate per kg, then adds paint, hinges, locks, fitting and transport. Two leaves use slightly more steel than one leaf of the same width because of the extra frame, but you save on heavy hinges and sagging repairs. SS gates are usually quoted by area and pipe grade.
Main gate questions
Which is better, a single door or double door main gate design?
Single door is best up to about 4.5 ft. Anything wider for a car should be a double door, because one wide leaf is heavy and starts to sag at the far end within a few years.
What size should the leaves of a main gate design double door be?
For a 10 ft opening use two 5 ft leaves, or 3.5 ft and 6.5 ft for an unequal gate. Keep each leaf under 6 ft wide if it swings on hinges alone.
What is a 3 palla main gate design?
It is a gate with three leaves. Two leaves are often hinged together to fold back and the third opens alone. It suits openings of 14 ft and more where two leaves would be too heavy.
Is a modern iron double door main gate design stronger than steel?
MS box section is stiffer for the same size and easy to weld and repair. SS 304 does not rust but thin pipes dent. Near the sea choose SS or a galvanised frame; inland, primed MS is fine.
Lohe ka main gate double door design mein kya check karein?
Frame ka box section kam se kam 40x40 mm ho, har palle mein brace ya sheet ho, aur neeche paani nikalne ka gap ho. Primer har jagah lagna chahiye, box ke andar bhi.
Can a single main gate design work for a car?
Only as a sliding gate. A swinging single leaf wide enough for a car is too heavy for normal hinges and pillars. Use a double door, or one sliding leaf on a track.
