Your main gate price depends on weight, material, finish and fittings, not just the photo you liked. Two gates that look alike can differ a lot in cost because one uses thin tube and the other heavy box section.
This guide shows how fabricators work out the total, how to estimate the weight yourself and which choices raise or lower the bill. The pictures below run from a plain low cost gate to SS, CNC and wide sliding gates, each with notes on what drives its cost. For a quick main gate design low cost option, look at the first group.
We do not list rates, because they change with steel markets and city. Instead, you will know what to ask so you can compare quotes fairly. Pick the look from the main gate design gallery or the main gate design for home page, then use this guide to price it.
Low Cost and Light Weight Main Gate Design
These gates use thin but sound sections and little sheet, so the weight and the bill stay low. A light weight main gate design is also easier on hinges and pillars. For more ideas see the simple low cost main gate page.

| Size | 6 x 5 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 25x25 box, 12mm bar |
| Finish | Black enamel |
Plain bars and a single mid rail keep weight near the lowest you can safely go. The 6 feet main gate design price stays low because there is no sheet and no cutting work.
Fabricator tip: Even on a budget, keep 25x25 mm box with 1.6 mm wall; thinner tube bends at the hinge.
Iron Main Gate Design with Price Factors: 7, 8 and 12 Feet Gates
Most homes need a 7 to 12 ft gate. Here the cost depends on the frame size, how much sheet goes in and the finish. The iron main gate design page has many more patterns at these sizes.

| Size | 7 x 6 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 40x40 box, 16g band |
| Finish | Slate grey PU |
A sheet band adds privacy at modest cost. The 7 feet main gate design price rises a little over plain bars because of the extra sheet weight.
Fabricator tip: Keep the sheet band to 18 inches; a taller band adds weight and wind load on the hinges.

| Size | 8 x 6 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 40x40 box, 20mm bars |
| Finish | Black PU |
Adding a wicket costs a little more in hinges and a lock, but saves wear on the big leaves. A common 8 ft choice for a bike and a small car.
Fabricator tip: Price the wicket lock and its frame as a separate line so you can compare quotes fairly.

| Size | 12 x 6 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 50x50 box, 18g |
| Finish | Dark green PU |
Full sheet means more weight, so a 12 ft gate like this costs well above a bar gate. Pressed grooves stiffen thin sheet without extra steel.
Fabricator tip: On a 12 ft full sheet gate, ask for a floor wheel under each leaf to protect the hinges.
Steel, CNC and Wide Gates: What Pushes the Main Gate Price Up
SS, CNC cutting and very wide sliding gates are priced differently. SS and CNC work is often quoted by area, and sliding gates add a track, wheels and rollers. See the steel main gate page for more SS options.

| Size | 4 x 6 ft, single |
|---|---|
| Material | SS 304, 20mm rods |
| Finish | Brushed satin |
A single SS leaf for a walk-in costs more than MS but never needs paint. Good for a side entry or a narrow plot.
Fabricator tip: Confirm the SS grade and pipe wall thickness on the quote; thinner pipe brings the price down for a reason.

| Size | 15 x 6 ft, sliding |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 60x40 tube, 18g |
| Finish | Charcoal PU |
At 15 ft a sliding gate often costs less in pillar work than two huge swing leaves. The 15 feet main gate design price includes the track, wheels and guide roller.
Fabricator tip: Get wheels, track and roller listed by size; cheap wheels are the first part to fail.

| Size | 10 x 6 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS frame, 3mm CNC |
| Finish | Black + copper PU |
CNC panels add cutting cost on top of the steel, so this gate sits at the upper end. The pattern is the main thing you are paying for.
Fabricator tip: Ask whether the CNC price covers cutting only or also design, welding and painting.
Village Gates, Grill Gates and Pillar Work
The gate is not the only cost. Village gates are wide, grill gates for the main door are small but detailed, and pillars with tiles add mason and tile costs. When you compare main gate pillar design images with price notes, check the pillar size and cladding area, not just the look. See the village and farm house gate and main gate pillar design pages.

| Size | 14 x 7 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 50x50 box, 16mm bar |
| Finish | Leaf green enamel |
Wide village gates use heavier frames, so weight adds up fast. Plain bars with a short sheet band keep it sensible.
Fabricator tip: Ask for drop rods and a centre stopper; on wide village gates these cost little and save the hinges.

| Size | 4.5 x 7 ft, double |
|---|---|
| Material | MS 25x25 box, 12mm bar |
| Finish | Black PU |
A double door grill gate for the main door is small, but locks, hinges and fitting make up much of its cost. Simple square bars keep it affordable.
Fabricator tip: Get the lock, tower bolts and anchor fasteners listed in the quote; they change the total a lot.

| Size | 2 x 2 ft, 7 ft tall |
|---|---|
| Material | RCC + 600x600 tiles |
| Finish | Grey matt tiles |
Tiled pillars add tile, adhesive and labour on top of the RCC work. Main gate tiles design photos with price questions usually come down to tile size and area.
Fabricator tip: Ask the mason for tile area in square feet per pillar so you can buy the right quantity.
How a Main Gate Price Is Worked Out
No honest fabricator can give a fair price from a photo alone. The price comes from a few clear parts:
- Steel weight. For MS gates, the total weight in kg is multiplied by the fabricator's rate per kg. That rate covers steel, cutting, welding and usually primer.
- Area for SS, CNC and cladding. SS, CNC cut panels, HPL and WPC are often quoted by area in square feet, because the work depends more on surface than on weight.
- Paint. Enamel is cheapest, PU costs more and powder coat costs more again but lasts longest.
- Hardware. Hinges, wheels, tracks, rollers, locks, tower bolts, handles and stoppers.
- Fitting and transport. Loading, carrying to site, fixing, any welding at site and the mason's help with hinge plates.
So when you see a search like main gate design price, iron main gate design with price or 8 feet main gate design photos with price, the honest answer is: the photo gives the look, and the weight, area and fittings give the price. Rates change with steel markets and city, so always get a fresh quote.
How to Estimate Gate Weight from Size and Section
You can make a rough weight estimate yourself and check the fabricator's figure. Add up the length of each section, multiply by its weight per metre, then add sheet area times its weight per square metre.
| Section | Approx. weight |
|---|---|
| MS square tube 40x40 mm, 2 mm wall | 2.3 kg per metre |
| MS square tube 50x50 mm, 2 mm wall | 2.9 kg per metre |
| MS rectangular tube 50x25 mm, 1.6 mm wall | 1.8 kg per metre |
| MS round bar 16 mm | 1.6 kg per metre |
| MS square bar 12 mm | 1.1 kg per metre |
| MS sheet 16 gauge (1.6 mm) | 12.5 kg per square metre |
| MS sheet 18 gauge (1.2 mm) | 9.4 kg per square metre |
Worked example: a 10 x 6 ft double gate with a 40x40 mm frame and 16 mm round bars at about 4.5 inch spacing. The frame and rails come to about 19 metres, which is close to 45 kg. Around 26 bars at 1.8 metres each make about 47 metres, close to 75 kg. Add hinges, tips and fittings and the gate weighs about 125 to 135 kg. Add 5 to 10 percent for wastage. Multiply that by the rate per kg quoted to you, then add paint, hardware and fitting.
The same method works for any size. A 6 feet main gate design iron price follows the same steps with shorter lengths, and a simple 12 feet main gate design with price questions just needs heavier sections in the count. Check sizes on the main gate by size page.
MS vs SS vs Wood vs CNC: What Drives the Cost
| Material | How it is priced | Main cost drivers | Upkeep |
|---|---|---|---|
| MS (loha) | Weight x rate per kg | Section size, sheet gauge, amount of sheet | Repaint every few years |
| SS 304 / 316 | Area or weight, plus finish | Grade, pipe wall, PVD or mirror finish | Wash only |
| Wood on steel frame | Frame weight plus wood area | Wood type, seasoning, polish | Polish yearly, keep dry |
| CNC cut sheet | Area of panel plus frame | Sheet thickness, cutting time, design detail | Repaint like MS |
| HPL / WPC panels | Panel area plus frame | Panel thickness, fixing method | Wash only |
MS is usually the lowest cost for the same size. SS costs more at the start but saves repainting. Wood and CNC cost more for the look. Sliding gates add a track and wheels; folding gates add extra hinges. See the sliding and folding gate page.
Ways to Cut Cost Without a Weak Gate
- Use less sheet. Bars weigh far less than full sheet. A sheet band on top gives privacy for a fraction of the weight. This is how most low cost main gate designs stay cheap.
- Pick the right section, not the biggest. 40x40 mm box is enough for most gates up to 10 ft. Do not go below 1.6 mm wall to save weight.
- Keep the pattern simple. Every scroll, cut and joint adds labour.
- Get two or three quotes on the same drawing. Give each fabricator the same sizes, sections, gauge and paint so you compare like with like.
- Do not save on primer and hinges. These are small costs that decide whether the gate lasts.
For a light weight main gate design, use rectangular tube for infill instead of solid square bar, and perforated or ribbed sheet instead of flat thick sheet.
Questions to Ask Before You Pay
- What is the estimated total weight, and will you weigh the gate before delivery?
- Which sections, wall thickness and sheet gauge are in the quote?
- How many primer and top coats, and which paint type?
- Which hinges, wheels, track and lock are included?
- Are fitting, site welding and transport included or extra?
- Is there a warranty on welding and on paint peeling?
- How much advance, and when is the balance due?
Write the answers on the quote and get it signed. Then pick a design from the main gate design gallery and compare quotes line by line.
Main gate questions
What decides the 8 feet main gate design price?
Mostly the weight of steel, the finish and the hardware. An 8 ft bar gate weighs much less than an 8 ft full sheet gate. Get the weight, rate per kg and fittings listed separately.
Why is there no fixed main gate price per foot?
Two gates of the same width can differ a lot in weight. Section size, sheet, pattern and paint all change the total. That is why fabricators quote MS gates by weight and SS or CNC work by area.
Which is cheaper for a 15 feet gate, sliding or swing?
A sliding gate needs a track and wheels but puts less strain on the pillars. Two large swing leaves need heavy pillars and hinges. At this width, a sliding gate often ends up similar or lower in total cost.
How can I get a low cost main gate design that still lasts?
Use plain bars with a small sheet band, a 40x40 mm frame and good primer. Avoid very thin tube and cheap hinges. Simple shapes with a good paint job last longer than fancy cheap work.
What does the double door grill gate design for main door price depend on?
The grill size, bar pattern, lock, tower bolts and anchor fixing. Small grill gates have little steel, so hardware and fitting are a big part of the total.
How do I check the village main gate design photos with price I get from a fabricator?
Ask for the weight and section sizes behind the photo. A wide village gate with 50x50 mm box and full sheet is heavy, while bars with a short sheet band weigh much less. Compare quotes for the same design only.
